Somebody Put It There

Okay, so here are my real views on Creationism vs. Evolution, or more so, Creationism AND Evolution:  I believe, contrary to my previous entry which was a joke btw, that these two ideas/concepts/views of life coexist and can do so peacefully.   I believe in a majority of the ideas that science has proven over the years such as survival of the fittest, adaptation, and microevolution.  However, I do NOT believe in the concept of macroevolution – which proposes the idea that we came from monkeys.  Sure, there is plenty of evidence that protect and support evolution, ie fossils dating back millions of years, dinosaur bones, prehistoric plants and all that good stuff.  I don't deny the sources or validity of carbon dating and I also believe the earth could be 4.5 billion years old on our time scale.  This doesn't mean that I don't believe what the Bible tells me either.  The Bible actually supports it. Some will say that the bible contradicts recent discoveries in science but we all know that's not true..

Genesis 1:1-3
1
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. 3 And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good, and He separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light "day," and the darkness he called "night." And there was evening, and there was morning—
the first day

and there's more!

14 And God said, "Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark seasons and days and years, 15 and let them be lights in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth." And it was so. 16 God made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars. 17 God set them in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth, 18 to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good. 19 And there was evening, and there was morning—the fourth day.

if you care:
2nd day: Split water and water to create sky
3rd day: Land and seas, vegetation, plants and trees
4th day: Sun, moon, stars
5th day: Living sea creatures, birds
6th day: Living land creatures, MAN
and it was good.

Exhibit A:
"Time"
The Book, if you will, explains that the first thing God created was the heavens and the earth - maybe referring to space and planets?  If light, which is the defining factor of time, was created after the earth, then a 4 billion year old planet is irrelevant to me.  He created sky, land, seas, vegetation, plants and trees on the 2nd and 3rd "day" before the "day" was even defined on the 4th "day" which means He couldve put whateeeeeeever he wanted to in howeeeeeever long He wanted to. God is outside of time, earth was created before time was created - maybe God decided to have a little fun with fossils and different sediment layers? Sure there are bones, but who put them there?

Exhibit B:
"The Big Bang"
Sure, it's possible.  For those that don't know much about this theory, it pretty much states that the entire galaxy was once a tiny singularity (small little dot that just existed) that was dense as a mofo and contained everything that space has right now.  well not everything, but all ingredients necessary to create whats there now.  Not to bash the theory, but I once heard an analogy of some sort saying it's like a tornado goes through a junk yard and constructs a perfect victorian house - with furniture inside. Although, if time isn't a factor, it actually is possible if that makes anyone feel better. but then again, there is the 2nd law of thermodynamics - increasing entropy; in laymans terms - everything goes out of order. then theres murphys law - whatever can go wrong, will go wrong blah blah. but yes, recent discoveries have proved that space is expanding outwardly from this so called dot - but who put the dot there?

Exhibit C:
"We came from Monkeys"
... Seriously? like, seriously? I don't care if you believe in God or not - if you believe we came from monkeys you deserve to be backhanded. ... I joke and apologize for my insensitivity but it's hard for me to comprehend that someone actually believes this.  I will attempt to express or prove my reasons behind this one later.  Right now I have to cool off because some people are such idiots

add on:
"Now the genetic difference between human and his nearest relative, the chimpanzee, is at least 1.6%. That doesn't sound like much, but calculated out, that is a gap of at least 48,000,000 nucleotides, and a change of only 3 nucleotides is fatal to an animal; there is no possibility of change." - Human Genome Project

"We also share about 50% of our DNA with bananas and that doesn't make us half bananas, either from the waist up or the waist down."  - Steve Jones, Evolutionist

from DARWIN himself:
"To suppose that the [human] eye with all its inimitable contrivances for adjusting the focus to different distances, for admitting different amounts of light, and for the correction of spherical and chromatic aberration, could have been formed by natural selection, seems, I freely confess, absurd in the highest degree."

Notes from a seminar at Urbana '03 - Science and Creation

Science studies the "customs" of the creator
 - what He does and how He does it

If God were to stop "sustaining all things" the world would stop existing

Miracles - can be defined as God working in less customary ways

Science - answers the question "How?"
Religion - answers the question "Why?" (along with other topics such as philosophy i guess?)

Creation vs. Evolution?
evolution could be a process of the creation (look above)

6 days doesn't mean literally
6 days = 6 stages
Sun and Moon created on 4th day

Mechanism vs Meaning
        *water boiling
-perspective: it can be molecules colliding due to an increase in kinetic energy transferred from the heat or simply someone wanting a cup of hot tea

Fine tuning - change anything by a little bit and the earth would not be able to exist
 - ie the complexity of the human body is outrageous, one thing misplaced and we're vegetables

Fine tuning is not a proof of God but seems more consistent with theism than atheism

Science and Christianity are NOT in conflict
